Emtelle, a leading provider of blown fibre and ducted network solutions for the FTTX industry, today launched its Emtelle HomeConnect solution – the revolutionary pre-connectorised cabling system that can be installed for internal and external use – allowing one solution to be used for both install scenarios and bringing significant time and cost savings to fibre operators.

Designed to provide a quick and easy one-stop-solution for internal/external drop cable installations, the small and flexible cable features a 3mm Low Fire Hazard (LFH) sheath for internal use which is covered by a slideable and adjustable 5mm PE sheath for external use. Emtelle HomeConnect is the only solution on the market to feature this slideable and adjustable sheath and allow for such a design.

The solution – which comes pre-terminated with an LC or SC connector at the house end – will reduce the specialist skills and tools required by operators deploying Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) connections, cutting the time and cost of installations.

“As bandwidth-hungry applications become common place in homes and businesses, consumers’ appetites for full fibre are growing, putting increasing pressure on operators for which fibre deployments can be expensive and time-consuming,” said Jamie McGee, Product Specialist at Emtelle. “This is exactly why we have developed Emtelle HomeConnect – to take away the complexity of fibre installations and ensure operators can get fibre as close as possible to the point of consumption easily and cost-effectively, using this all-in-one solution.”

Emtelle HomeConnect is available in lengths of 5m, 20m, 30m and 50m and in a variety of external colours. It is deployed at the internal Customer Connection Point (CCP) where the connectorized end (LC or SC connector) is simply plugged into, from which the polyethylene outer sheath is adjusted to expose enough LFH tube to route internally to the customer lead in point.

The product is then pushed through the lead in point to the outside of the building where the sheath changes over from LFH to polyethylene. The external customer lead in kit at the building completes the Emtelle HomeConnect solution with capping, cable guard, a wall plate or the customer connection enclosure (CCE) all protecting the cable through its transition from internal to external use. Finally, the lead to the external splice point where the customer is connected to the external fibre network.

“Emtelle HomeConnect is a state-of-the-art solution for the fibre industry. We noticed a gap in the market for an internal cable that can have the external sheath removed or adjusted quickly and easily and this led us to develop Emtelle HomeConnect,” added Colin Kirkpatrick, Solutions Director at Emtelle. “We are delighted to debut this one-of-a-kind solution to the industry and are confident it will enable more operators to commit to FTTH deployments.”

Emtelle will exhibit Emtelle HomeConnect, alongside its comprehensive portfolio of blown fibre, cabling and ducted solutions at Booth G14, at FTTH Conference 2019, in Amsterdam, from Wednesday March 13 to Thursday, March 14. FTTH Conference begins on Tuesday, March 12, with a Workshop Day.

Emtelle, the leading global manufacturer of blown fibre, cabling and ducted network solutions has today announced it has launched a brand-new flexible direct burial solution – FibreFlow™ WEBFLEX, designed to simplify branching of microducts when rolling-out Fibre-to-the-x (FTTx) networks.

Fibreflow WEBFLEX – unique flexible direct burial solution from Emtelle

FibreFlow™ WEBFLEX is a flexible and easily accessible direct burial tube bundle, designed for installation using conventional and microtrenching technology. Consisting of 12 microducts joined together in a branch formation, the solution’s unique design makes it easy to strip and branch the desired microduct with minimal disruption or risk of damage to the remaining microducts.

This eliminates the need for connectors which are typically required during branching, whilst enabling fast and easy sheath stripping, reducing the number of failure points throughout the network. Emtelle’s FibreFlow™ WEBFLEX also reduces the amount of waste compared to other ‘break and branch connector solutions’, as no extra drop ducts are required, meaning installers can utilise much more of the tubes within the bundle.

“We are constantly growing our technology portfolio in response to the rising demand for FTTx networks and our new FibreFlow™ WEBFLEX is the perfect addition, providing operators with a flexible and easy-to-use direct burial solution. We’ve specifically tailormade this design as a result of listening to some of the occasional difficulties operators experience during installs,” said Scott Modha, International Business Development at Emtelle. “In an ever-crowded market place, we are continuing to introduce the latest and most dynamic solutions to aid our customer’s FTTx projects, whilst reducing their operational costs and on-going expenses.

“We are currently carrying out live trials of the solution in the UK, Middle East and USA and so far, customers’ expectations of this new solution have been met,” added Scott.

FibreFlow™ WEBFLEX can be laid in an open trench and installed into a micro trench using an Emtelle Vertex product for maximum microduct capacity in a trench. Or by combining the solution with Emtelle’s Multifu system – where fibres are pre-installed – during the installation, tubes can be broken and branched, or they can be branched in future by pulling the fibre back.

“It truly is a unique solution for direct burial installations. Its clearly visible design offers easy identification of the desired microduct and with an easy-to-use, safe tool for stripping and branching, plus the benefit of removing the need for connectors at each branching point, we look forward to seeing our Fibreflow WEBFLEX in action and the value it can bring in enhancing customers’ installs,” advised Scott.

Emtelle will showcase its full range of blown fibre and microduct solutions, at Booth A11, Hall 7, at ANGA COM 2019, in Cologne, Germany, which takes place from Tuesday, June 4 until Thursday, June 6.

5G networks require more fibre to maximise full potential

$

For operators to maximise the full potential of 5G and capitalise on their network infrastructure, fibre should be at the heart of every Fibre-To-The-x (FTTx) and mobile network, Emtelle’s Market Specialist, 5G, IoT and Smart City said today.

Paul McCue, Market Specialist at Emtelle

Speaking ahead of ANGA COM 2019, which will take place in Cologne, Germany next week, Paul McCue explained that given the expected small cells, network densification and 5G requirements, it is essential that fibre is extended further into the mobile network. Fibre all the way to the antenna is becoming a necessity for many operators’ fronthaul and backhaul to cater for reliable, low latency and higher bandwidth demands.

“Many companies have already planned and noticed the pivotal role fibre will play in 5G networks, which is acting as a catalyst for them to adopt new approaches to their network builds. As operators switch on 5G, FTTx and existing mobile backhaul will converge, creating a robust network which can support the high-speed, anytime, anywhere connectivity that is required. With fibre at small cells, we see that backhaul connections follow similar routes as street layouts in an FTTx network,” stated McCue.

“At Emtelle, we have identified eight areas in fronthaul and backhaul where our fibre solutions can be used. This includes expanding existing 4G Fibre-To-The-Antennas (FTTAs), network densification, changing C-RAN, vRAN architectures, small cell, new antenna sites, Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) through to indoor solutions. For instance, we are currently working with the Danish Outdoor Lighting Lab (DOLL), which is the country’s National Test Centre for Intelligent Lighting and Smart City services. As part of the project, we deployed our pre-terminated fibre and ducting solution, QWKconnect, that fully integrates into streetlights containing 5G antennas in the DOLL network. QWKconnect is highly reliable and compact enough to be easily integrated in streetlights, traffic lights and city-wide deployments,” McCue said.

Emtelle’s FibreFlow™ WEBFLEX is another crossover technology from FTTx that the mobile industry can capitalise on, McCue went on to explain. Consisting of 12 microducts joined together in a branch formation, the solution’s unique design makes it easy to strip and branch the desired microduct with minimal disruption or risk of damage to the remaining microducts.

Fibre-connected small cells are paving the way for 5G by enabling even faster speeds, lower latency and better coordination between cells than traditional network methods. Better coordination and lower latency are essential for the advancement of future applications such as Autonomous Vehicles (AV), emphasised McCue.

“With the evolution of 4G and the architectural changes in the Radio Access Network (RAN), we saw fibre quickly become first choice to many operators given its longevity, ultra-low latency, cost effectiveness and high bandwidth capabilities,” said McCue. “With increasing network densification and small cells becoming operational, performance expectations in 5G in fronthaul and backhaul are ensuring that fibre will be an even more critical asset in any operators’ network. We have seen growth in new fibre and ducting network models to support all types of mobile operators as well as other wireless networks.”

The implications for 5G and the FTTx industry will be a key topic of conversation for Emtelle’s teams at ANGA COM 2019, where the company will showcase its full range of blown fibre, cabling and microduct solutions designed to support 5G networks, at Booth A11, Hall 7, from Tuesday, June 4 until Thursday, June 6.

Today at ANGA COM in Cologne, Germany, Emtelle, HellermannTyton & Senko Advanced Components revealed the fruits of a collaborative project and launched a brand-new solution into the Fibre-to-the-X (FTTX) market. Unveiled at the Emtelle booth on the first day of the exhibition, the three leading companies explained the collaboration and the benefits of FibreTap, the ultimate plug and play ruggedised drop solution.

FibreTap is a pre-connectorised plug and play solution designed for overhead and underground use. It is a non-splice solution which improves speed of installation and saves time at the customer drop through its plug and play connection method. At the launch, it was revealed that the project has been under wraps while the companies worked on designing and testing the solution to ensure it offers maximum benefit to operators worldwide.

Emtelle, a blown fibre, cabling and ducted network solution manufacturer, has provided the pre-connectorised 5/2mm and 6/3.2mm universal drop cable with 2-8 G657A2 fibres pre-installed. HellermannTyton, a manufacturer of fibre splice closure and cable management solutions, has provided a specially designed Optical Network Terminator (ONT) closure, as well as a new IP68  rated fibre plug and play adapter block for pole or chamber installations. Finally, Senko, a manufacturer of optical interconnect solutions, has provided an LC blown fibre type connector, a mechanical splice alternative solution for the ONT, as well as a bespoke version of its compact IP connector for plug and play solutions. Together the contributions from the three partners create a flexible and user-friendly solution – FibreTap, the ultimate plug and play ruggedised drop solution.

With an increase in demand for fibre worldwide and to cope with the ever-increasing need for broadband speeds as the online world grows, there comes the need to provide operators with solutions that are easy-to-install, reliable, and futureproof. FibreTap offers exactly that. With its pre-connectorisation, FibreTap requires minimal training to install whilst giving maximum opportunity for high quality fibre connections. The ruggedised design of the FibreTap solution from the cable to the connector and beyond to the closure, ensures optimum protection of the cable and connection, ensuring – as online bandwidth requirements multiply – that the solution remains consistent in maintaining the high quality, fast and future-proof connection.

Matthew Hunter, Managing Director at HellermannTyton, reiterated the importance of the strong partnership, saying: “It made logical sense to partner with Emtelle and Senko to create such a solution, due to our long-standing relationships and 180+ years’ experience between us. To pre-connectorise our well-renowned closures to Emtelle’s quality cable with Senko’s ruggedised connector, makes a complete solution that helps installers worldwide on making fibre installations quicker, easier and more effective.”

Chief Executive Officer at Emtelle Tony Rodgers said: “Working together, combining our experience and our manufacturing and testing facilities, has allowed us to maximise our design and testing efforts to ensure our new ruggedised drop solution really is ‘plug and play’. All components of this solution have been tested to withstand extreme conditions and designed specifically to answer operator needs worldwide.”

“It’s been great to combine three world leaders in their own right that have three individually great components into one exceptional solution for the FTTX market,” added Miguel Miyamoto, General manager at Senko Euro. “We’re truly excited to see this solution growing to become the go-to solution for operators worldwide.”

The FibreTap solution will be showcased at ANGA COM in Cologne, Germany this week at Emtelle booth (Hall 7, Stand A11), Senko (Hall 7, Stand B51) and the HellermannTyton booth (Hall 7, Stand G68) – where representatives of all three partners will be present.

Emtelle Multiplies Supply Length of Pre-installed Fibre Solutions

Emtelle, the leading manufacturer of blown fibre, cabling and ducted solutions, has today announced it has further developed its Pre-Installed Fibre Unit (PIFU) and Multifu Multiple Installed Fibre Unit (Multifu) solutions, allowing for the PIFU to be supplied in 4000 metre lengths and the Multifu in 1500 metre lengths.

A development from its existing solutions, consumers are to expect the same notable benefits that the PIFU and Multifu has always offered, but now with the additional benefit of increased lengths available. Multifu – pioneered by Emtelle – uses an innovative patented design of the fibre unit which is pre-installed into the microduct. This allows for increased rollout speeds and reduced skill sets required for the install. Emtelle pre-installed fibre solutions have proven to be a key solution in FTTx deployments worldwide, with over 50,000km of such solutions deployed globally.

This new advancement of increased supply length further contributes to the extensive list of benefits Emtelle PIFU and Multifu offers. Such advantages include less handling practices and costs; increased lengths on a drum provides the contractor with less drums to dispose of, or return for reuse, whilst reducing transport costs and high-density transport loads due to the reduction in drum quantities.

The PIFU and Multifu also allow for 12 fibre placement in the future, enabling operators to upgrade their network and add in more fibre in the future, as end-users demands evolve and grow.

“As part of our focus on providing innovative and value-adding solutions, we are continuously looking to improve existing solutions and processes. Our knowledge and experience, combined with our ability to listen to our customers, allow us to create, develop and sustain such solutions like Multifu,” said Colin Kirkpatrick, Solutions Director at Emtelle. “We’re proud to have the capability and intelligence within the Emtelle group to offer our customers even more benefits by making enhancements to our already proven FTTX solutions.

“Having the newly formed solutions team working on these types of developments with the manufacturing team has opened a vast array of developments; we are not about standing still – we always aim to be at the forefront of these new technologies, and the advancement of our PIFU & Multifu solutions proves this.”

The development comes as Emtelle further enhances its position in the market with its recently introduced Emtelle Solutions Team and the Manufacturing Team at Emtelle. As part of this, the team are continuously working to extend Emtelle’s PIFU and Multifu solutions, with further product enhancements planned for this year.

Emtelle, the leading global manufacturer of blown fibre, cabling, ducted & pre-connectorised fibre solutions has been selected by VolkerWessels Telecom as key supplier of a range of fibre optic solutions and components for the rollout of a fibre optic network in The Hague.

Earlier this year, a collaboration was formed between VolkerWessels Telecom, T-Mobile and Primevest Capital Partners for the rollout of an open-access FTTH network in the Segbroek district of The Hague. Last June, the partnership started with the rollout of 33,000 residential and business addresses, using Emtelle solutions for the deployment.

During the rollout of the network, VolkerWessels Telecom uses Emtelle’s Multifu pre-installed fibre solution along with various microduct and minicable solutions. The use of Emtelle’s solutions contributes to a fully compatible, futureproof and flexible high-speed FTTH network.

Emtelle’s Multifu ensures that the fibre and microduct bundle is installed in one go due to the fibre unit being pre-installed into the tube during manufacture. This allows for increased rollout speeds and reduced skill requirements. The innovative design of Multifu – pioneered by Emtelle – also enables reduced CAPEX per homes passed and homes connected from day one.

The solutions supplied for this project were manufactured in T-Mobile’s trademark magenta colour for easy brand recognition. By using Emtelle Multifu, the solution design allows VolkerWessels Telecom to build the complete open access network throughout the Segbroek district with the opportunity to connect individual premises to the chosen provider’s connection at a later date, permitting an efficient, futureproof and less-disruptive deployment process.

“Having worked with VolkerWessels Telecom for nearly ten years, as well as our experience cooperating with major telecommunications providers throughout Europe, this project was the perfect assignment for us. We had the opportunity to create a bespoke solution for this optical fibre project in The Hague which offers notable benefits for both the contractor and the end customer,” commented Theun Tukkers, Sales Manager Benelux of Emtelle.

Bastiaan Ruijg, Business Manager at VolkerWessels Telecom added: “Civilians and businesses become increasingly dependent on a stable and reliable digital infrastructure. After all, more and more people and devices are connected. To design, build, manage and maintain such a strong network in The Hague, we combine years of experience with innovative solutions from within our organisation and from external partners like Emtelle. Emtelle has wealth of experience within the FTTX industry with successful support systems in place proving they are an important partner in such fibre projects”.

Emtelle, the leading global manufacturer of blown fibre, cabling and ducted solutions has announced it has entered into a strategic partnership with Deutsche Glasfaser, a leading Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) provider in Germany – a contract totalling €63 million for the supply of a range of tube bundles and fibre cables – cementing Emtelle solutions as a key element of Germany’s nationwide FTTH expansion project.

Combining two market leaders in FTTH deployment and solution manufacture, the long-term agreement secures the supply of Emtelle’s complete passive Fibreflow solution; from minicables and microducts from exchange to cabinet, and the distribution of Emtelle’s pre-installed fibre systems and tube bundles from cabinet to home. For the final home connection, a range of customer entry systems, termination boxes and patchcords will complement the entire package.

Achieving the specific requirements of the project, Emtelle’s enhanced 4mm tube bundles with the use of its 12 and 24 way Multifu will be deployed to support Deutsche Glasfaser’s rapid network expansion. Emtelle’s RTRYVA solution & 7mm tube bundles will also be supplied to support the network upgrade in certain areas, while its 10/6mm solutions will cover the government funded areas of the project. Deutsche Glasfaser will deploy the Fibreflow solution as part of its ongoing plans to implement FTTH networks quickly and cost-effectively across Germany.

Targeting rural regions of Germany, Deutsche Glasfaser has already begun the deployment of an ultra-fast broadband network using Emtelle solutions in Germany’s largest state. The deployment will now progress to western Germany with plans to expand northwards and to the east of the country.

“As Germany’s fastest-growing FTTH network provider, it’s vital that we have the technology in place which can enable us to rollout ultra-fast connectivity to the outmost rural areas of the nation – and to do so rapidly,” said Dr. Stephan Zimmermann CTO Deutsche Glasfaser. “This is exactly why we have chosen Emtelle’s high-quality, reliable solutions for the project, with their innovative Multifu solution providing us with the means to swiftly deploy and expand FTTH networks across the nation, which will ultimately, connect the unconnected.”

Having supported Deutsche Glasfaser since 2012, Emtelle has been selected by Deutsche Glasfaser as the primary & sole solution provider of the project due to its high-quality fibre and cabling end-to-end solution and competitive pricing. Emtelle was awarded the 63-million-euro contract following a competitive tender process with two other tier-1 fibre optic solution providers.

Tony Rodgers, CEO of Emtelle Group, added: “Emtelle’s extensive knowledge and proven experience of enabling operators’ network builds and expansion plans means we are perfectly positioned to support Deutsche Glasfaser in delivering the nation’s largest FTTH rollout. Our tailor-made, innovative solutions are designed to overcome the key challenges of building complex and large-scale fibre deployments, enabling Deutsche Glasfaser to meet the demand for high-speed connectivity in every corner of the nation.”
