0

The newly launched, robust yet ultra-thin lightweight nanocable from Emtelle.

With up to twelve fibres set in an encapsulating layer providing excellent dimensional and thermal stability, the Emtelle nanocable has been developed to withstand Nordic conditions – with an extremely wide temperature range -20 to +60.

The cable is only up to 2.1mm in diameter, but the outer low friction thermoplastic layer on the product ensures a high level of protection and installation properties. The fibres within the cable are dry, with no gel coating used, permitting fast and contamination-free connections.

The characteristics of this new nanocable provides a durable and easy to install product to the FTTH market allowing for it to be easily blown 1500m in under 30minutes. This doesn’t mean it can only be installed by blowing; it has been tested in house, and has proven results when installed by blowing, pushing or pulling into Fibreflow microducts and tube bundles, meaning it gives an easy and time-saving installation, because blowing equipment is not always required.

The slim and durable nanocable from Emtelle achieves safe, high quality, and cost-effective installations within harsh Nordic climates.

Emtelle, a leading provider of blown fibre and ducted network solutions for the telecoms industry, today launched a ground-breaking new product to meet new indoor fire regulations.

Based on the QWKconnect pre-connectorised fibre microduct system, the new QWKconnect MDU is manufactured out of Low Fire Hazard material, meaning it is suitable for internal use, giving excellent performance in a fire scenario.

The QWKconnect MDU uses QWKlink Fibre from the Emtelle FibreFlow brand, but comes pre-installed in a LFH microduct, and has the added benefit of pre-installed fibre connectors on both ends, eliminating the need to splice or blow fibres for FTTX drop applications. The QWKconnect MDU fibres 1.1mm diameter reduces the cost and complexity of installation and works by simply plugging in once installed.

“QWKconnect MDU allows us to offer our customers the most-up-to-date technology in terms of both cost-efficiency and industry regulations,” said Scott Modha, International Business Development Manager at Emtelle. “Our popular QWKconnect is proven in the benefits it offers to our customers and now we can offer an extra dimension to this through the fully LFH, versatile QWKconnect MDU for internal use.”

The QWKconnect MDU can be installed from the basement, up the riser and connected to a simple termination box within the premise or apartment. The product also gives a future-proof, dedicated microduct pathway to each apartment to allow for future upgrades of the fibre.

“There is no other product on the market which provides such savings for an internal or ducted FTTH drop solution when quality needs to be high and installation needs to be cost-effective, simple and reliable. You simply ‘Fit and Forget’” said Mark Graham, Technical Engineer at Emtelle. “We are looking forward to showcasing this product for the first time at the FTTH Conference.”

The QWKconnect MDU will be just one of the products to be showcased by Emtelle at the FTTH Conference 2018, which takes place from tomorrow in Valencia. Visitors to Emtelle’s stand G01 will also be invited to take part in a ‘Blown Fibre Race’ which will demonstrate FiSpy by FiComms, for which Emtelle has become the premier distributor in Europe. The Blown Fibre Race winner will be presented with a FiSpy on the final day of the conference.

Emtelle’s International Business Development Manager Scott Modha will also discuss how to improve the speed and efficiency of MDU installations for FTTH, even where fibre resources are limited, in the FTTH Conference Workshops on Tuesday, February 13 from 2pm to 5pm.

Emtelle, a leading provider of blown fibre and ducted network solutions for the telecoms industry, today announced a new addition to its PowerProtect+ range, completing its data centre portfolio and further reducing the risk of costly damage to areas where cables transition from an external to internal network.

Opticom – which was recently chosen as the new standard duct between manholes and the intake areas of a range of data centres in EMEA – features an IP57 watertight seal to create a dedicated pathway for each cable inside its own sub-duct, protecting it from water and dirt ingress.

When it is combined with Emtelle’s PowerProtect+ it creates a dedicated pathway for communications and power cables. These pathways have exceptional heat resistance, withstanding temperatures as high as 75 degrees centigrade when exposed to heavy loads.

“Traditional ducting without any seals is frequently subjected to ingress from water and dirt but Opticom changes this, protecting data centres at their most vulnerable point,” said Mark Graham, Technical Engineer at Emtelle. “The full PowerProtect+ range is built on the philosophy of reducing costly cable damage through quick and easy installation, with minimal training and tools. Opticom adds to this, allowing us to offer a full end-to-end data centre solution for the first time.”

Opticom has been developed for use in datacentres worldwide. Through its rugged design and PVC construction, the Opticom duct is strong enough to withstand the most common causes of damage faced in cable installations. Each individual sub-duct is colour-coded to ensure installation takes place inside the correct pathway, while spare sub-ducts and the outer housing of the Opticom duct can also be sealed at any presentation points, ensuring a clean and clear pathway for future cable installation.

With more than 30 years’ experience within the FTTx industry, Emtelle has a manufacturing footprint in Scotland, Denmark and Germany and its products are used in data centres worldwide, including in the UK, Holland and Scandinavia.

The PowerProtect+ range features a unique and innovative InterferenceRing Seal which was designed for easy power cable placement allowing a smooth and safe cable passage. The inner ducts are manufactured in four different colours, ensuring that every duct is attached to the correct sub-duct, enabling smooth and efficient installations. This also allows swift identification between the various types of use for ducts, including fttx, low voltage, medium voltage, CCTV security lighting and fibre.

Emtelle – a global leader in blown fibre and ducted solutions – is proud to announce that Emtelle Sweden has been certified by Robust Fiber.

Robust Fiber, an industry-wide concept designed to provide clear guidance to those who build or procure fibre networks, has regulated Emtelle and their fibre solutions and have certified Emtelle as a robust, and reliable fibre supplier.

Sweden requires fibre networks that are built by quality and robust means, and Swedish-based Robust Fiber wants to aid in providing this. Prior to Robust Fiber there was no established standard for how a network should be placed to be robust and reliable. The Robust Fiber concept, which includes a large number of telecom operators as well as the National Post and Telecom Agency, was created to help those who purchase build or inspect fibre networks.

The concept has developed instructions that are intended to assist in the deployment of fibre. The instructions describe several points; for example, design, placement methods in various landscape conditions, material choices, robust notes, collaborative methods and documentation routines. Now with the introduction of the Robust Fiber concept, there is a standard that is seen as the acceptable level in a fibre infrastructure installation. If all networks were built according to this standard, future maintenance and development would be greatly facilitated, and this unified way of building infrastructure is a way of creating more robust and reliable networks.

Peter Schulte, Sales Director of Emtelle Sweden, commented on the recent certification:

“It’s fantastic that Emtelle Sweden have been acknowledged by Robust Fiber as a robust and reliable supplier of fibre solutions. With over 25 years’ experience in the fibre industry, and Emtelle fibre having been deployed in Sweden and around the world, we pride ourselves on our knowledge and experience in all things fibre, providing high quality, futureproof and cost-effective solutions to our customers worldwide”

Emtelle Introduces FS:Detect, The Latest Enhancement Of Its Fispy Microduct Connection System

$

Emtelle, a leading provider of blown fibre and ducted network solutions for the telecoms industry, has added FS:Detect to its product range to create an innovative integrated kit designed to pinpoint damage and deliver error-free microduct selection in fibre networks, significantly reducing costly repairs and installation time.

Developed by New Zealand-based FiComms, the FiSpy kit consists of two complementary hand tools. FS:Select, also known as FiSpy, can be used to accurately identify the damaged microduct, eliminating the risk of incorrect selection and cutting of ducts which may have live services in them. This ensures disruption and damage is kept to a minimum, while allowing repairs to be easily carried out and new fibre to be installed.

Operators can then use the FS:Detect, which uses a blowable, traceable wire, that can be blown up to 500m, to detect damage to ducts or microducts within a tube bundle or microduct fibre environment. The cable is designed to stop when it hits any damage or impingement, which can then be traced using a standard CAT scanner and generator to pinpoint the exact area of damage.

“The addition of FS:Detect to our range creates a complete kit which should cover all potential microduct connectivity issues, with the operation expense saving being so great that FiSpy will have paid for itself after just three uses when you take multiple civil engineers‘ activities into account,” said Colin Kirkpatrick, European Sales Director at Emtelle. “As the original blown fibre manufacturer, with 25 years of experience and expertise in blown fibre tubing, we are committed to minimising project costs, installation time and disruption to services – and that is exactly what the FiSpy kit enables.”

The combination of the FS:Select and the FS:Detect into one integrated kit can enable the detection of microducts with no individual colour identification, guaranteeing an error-free selection of faulty or failed fibre installations.

The newly developed kit can be supplied in up to 1,000m lengths and has a minimum bend radius of 21mm, making it agile enough for any field deployment scenario. While maintaining a compact, handheld portable design to ensure high-user friendliness and easy transportation.

“The reaction to the launch of FiSpy earlier this year has been incredibly positive and when we saw an opportunity to widen its capabilities and create a complete, all-round solution, we knew we had to take it,” said Sean Rainthorpe, CEO of FiComms. “The full FiSpy kit not only allows operators to select the microduct where there is a fault but enables exact detection of where the fault is in the microduct, helping them get their customers back online quickly – which is incredibly important as demand for ‘always-on broadband continues to rise.”

The combined capabilities of Emtelle’s FS:Select and FS:Detect will be showcased for the first time at ANGA COM 2018, where Emtelle will put the FiSpy kit to the test in an all-new blown fibre race which has been built into an interactive stand (G60). The race will see the FiSpy kit pitted against other existing products in the market, giving visitors a first-hand glimpse at its revolutionary capabilities.

The FiSpy kit will join Emtelle’s full portfolio of blown fibre and ducted solutions on display at ANGA COM 2018, in Cologne, Germany, at stand G60, from Tuesday, June 12 to Thursday, June 14.

An Interview with… Scott Modha

$

Emtelle, the leading manufacturer of blown fibre and ducted network solutions, delves further into the people behind the company and it’s success.

From line operators to SHEQ engineers, from internal customer service representatives to external sales managers, from marketing to technical, from finance to purchasing, from the UK to the other side of the world, the global leader Emtelle employs over 450 employees globally.

We interview Scott Modha, International Business Development Manager for Emtelle, responsible for sales in the central projects team that covers Asia, Africa, America & Canada – on his background within the FTTx industry and what his role within Emtelle involves.

What encouraged you to work for Emtelle?
I had experience with working with Emtelle products during my time at BT from 2004 to 2012. During my first couple of years away from BT I worked as a supplier of some of the additional materials that Emtelle buy and sell. I was attracted by the quality and innovation of the products that Emtelle made and the way that they engaged with their customers. This was something that I wanted to be a part of to help further my knowledge and develop my sales skills, and Emtelle was the place to do it. Three and a half years later and the role at Emtelle is just as interesting as ever!

What does being “International Business Development Manager” within Emtelle involve?
The good thing is that I never have a “typical” day. My customer base stretches as far as South Africa, up to Egypt and the Middle East into Southern Europe and all the way into North America and Canada. This means that on a day to day basis I am in regular contact with my existing customer base and sales representatives, as well as looking to engage with new customers and projects within these territories.

What aspects of International Business Development do you like?
I like how varied things are, there are never two days that are the same. My customers rely on me and my knowledge to help them deploy fibre in various projects which involves problem solving, innovation and often the ability to do the same job in a number of different styles. This is something that has always interested me! The fact that I get to see lots of different places all over the world is also great.

What aspects of International Business Development do you find most challenging?
One thing that took a while to get used to is the different ways that people do business in different countries. There is never a single way to approach or engage with a customer and you have to adapt and adjust how you do business depending on where you are. Time zones and making time to be in contact with customers ahead and behind of the UK time zone is just as challenging.

What enticed you to move in to external sales and sales development from working with BT as a Fibre Optics Installer and Spicer doing product installs?
I had spent 8 years working for BT as an installer, providing fibre to businesses all over the City of London. I had learnt some fantastic skills and knowledge during busy and stressful times such as the Olympics in 2012 and throughout several upgrade projects that I worked on. Shortly after finishing a project providing fibre backbone for the Olympics park (coincidentally using Emtelle products!) I decided that I wanted to take on a new challenge, one which I could use my hands-on experience to offer reliable and complete advice to my customers. This is when I moved into a sales position. Having these hands-on skills gives me kudos and an advantage when speaking at a technical level with all of my customers today.

What opportunities has your role in Emtelle enabled you to do?
Working for Emtelle has enabled me to further my knowledge on FTTx and FTTH networks to the stage where I have a much more complete understanding of different network topologies, active and passive equipment as well as the different civils practices that projects in different countries require. My role at Emtelle has given me exposure to clients at varying levels and in companies all over the world which has further broadened my commercial and technical skills.

What differences have you encountered between UK sales and international sales?
I think the best analogy I can think of is “Just because it is done like that in the UK, doesn’t mean we do it in the same way!”
Many countries have specifications and standards, and indeed labour force that install in ways that are a world apart from how things are done in the UK. A vital part of working internationally is the ability to understand this and adapt your approach, both technically and commercially to ensure you do not alienate yourself from the people you are meeting.

What are your next steps within your role?
I would like to continue my work at Emtelle to the stage where I one day have the business at a level to have additional staff, and to manage and work with them to grow the business further.

What’s your favourite Emtelle product to date and why?
My favourite product to date is Emtelle QWK-Link. A pre terminated blowable drop fibre that needs no splicing and very little skill to install means it is transferrable across all of the markets I work in, and the feedback I often get from new customers is just as encouraging as how I feel when I speak about it!

What Emtelle products work well in your regions and why?
Emtelle’s RTRYVA range of products seem to be universally accepted for the cost and time savings that the product brings when being installed in both an internal and external network. We have had great success with this product in Africa, where many thousands of kilometres have been installed to date. Here, the interest for the product seems stronger than ever. As well as this, the air blown fibre range of products are slowly being more and more accepted within the North American market, where traditionally very little blown fibre was used. New Customers are now realising the benefits of installing a micro/blown fibre network more and more. This is giving them the ability to connect or pass homes quicker, when combining this technology with some of the cost and time saving civils works such as micro trenching.

Emtelle Group News

Emtelle, a leading global manufacturer of blown fibre and ducted network solutions for the telecommunications industry, today announces that Group Chief Executive Mads A. Høgfeldt is leaving his position at Emtelle after 11 years of operational day-to-day responsibility. Mads will continue as chairman of the board for the Emtelle Group.

It is our great pleasure to announce that Tony Rodgers will take over the role as Group Chief Executive and new head of the Senior Management Team for Emtelle. For the last 4,5 years Tony has been Group CFO of the Emtelle group and knows the company better than most. Tony has proved himself to be a hard worker with a solid financial background giving him extraordinary strengths as a skilled negotiator and intelligent business overview. The remaining Senior Management team will remain unchanged.

Following the last 5 years of high growth, the Board of Directors engaged Rothschild in 2017 to make a full strategic review of the business and to advise on the strategic options ahead for the Emtelle Group. The shareholders wanted to understand market outlook, future challenges and see whether Emtelle was fit for purpose in structure and in ownership. This work included a comprehensive market research for our industry including an analysis on how the future industry trends could affect our business.

Based on the conclusions from this work, the shareholders who founded Emtelle more than 30 years ago, have decided to take full ownership of the Emtelle Group. Further they have confirmed their continued relentless support in this proposed journey ahead.

Tony Rodgers will face the exiting job of securing Emtelle´s continued growth in a larger – but also a more concentrated and volatile market where the demands for new technologies, new services and continued cost reductions are main topics to be addressed in the future.

This handover comes as part of a greater strategic plan for Emtelle as such it is not expected to affect the day-to-day business of the Group.

Mads A Høgfeldt:  “I believe Emtelle is perfectly positioned and poised to embark on the next leg of its journey. We have just had our best years ever. We have completed our 30 million euros investment programme in our factories in a growing market and we have a very solid Senior Management Team in place to lead the best staff through the next phases and challenges ahead. Now is the time to make room for new leadership to secure Emtelle´s continued success.  It’s been a great privilege working with my colleagues, customers and suppliers throughout the years: what a wild ride it has been!” I look forward to continue the cooperation in my new role

Tony Rodgers says: “I am humbled and delighted to be taking over the management of Emtelle at such an exciting time in its evolution.  I am also privileged to have been selected to lead and support the industry’s most capable and experienced management team, over the coming years”.

Introducing “Game-Changing” 24 Fibre Bundle to Double Operators’ Capacity

Emtelle, a leading provider of blown fibre and ducted network solutions for the telecoms industry, today launched its 24 fibre bundle solution at Broadband World Forum, presenting significant cost savings and operational benefits for telecom operators.

24 Fibre Bundle Solution allows for extra capacity for up to 288f in a 24-way tube bundle

The new 24 fibre bundle solution forms part of Emtelle’s FibreFlow microduct system and has been launched in response to the growing pressure on operators to provide greater capacity over fibre. The solution adds extra capacity for up to 288 fibres in a 24-way tube bundle and doubles the capacity of 3.5 and 4.0mm microducts, reducing the need for so many feeder cables.

“FTTx is growing rapidly around the world and more and more fibre is needed in networks which is exactly why we have launched the 24 fibre solution,” said Colin Kirkpatrick, European Business Development at Emtelle. “The new 24 fibre bundle solution is going to be a game-changer for the blown fibre industry. It is going to enable operators to install a 24 fibre bundle into their existing infrastructure to feed the wider areas of their FTTH deployments. In other words, existing operators using Emtelle microducts can double their capacity overnight and halve the blowing cost per fibre.”

Emtelle’s 24 fibre bundle can be blown up to 600 metres into existing networks of underground tube bundles when using Emtelle’s GS150 blowing machine. It can be blown in either 3.5mm, 5mm or larger tubes while its low friction outer jacket allows fibre to be blown around bends effectively. This will open up further opportunities for the solution to be deployed in locations where fibre installations were previously limited due to physically challenging terrain.

For more information on Emtelle’s new 24 fibre bundle or its full portfolio of blown fibre and ducted solutions, visit Emtelle representatives this week at Stand F111 at Broadband World Forum 2018, which is taking place at Messe, Berlin, Germany, until Thursday, 25 October.

More information on the new 24 Fibre Bundle can be found in our new brochure here
